Hello

I'm Jo and I wanted to introduce myself - I am glad you have found my website and I hope to see you one day on the mat.

My yoga journey started during a night class in Newcastle in 1994. Since then I have tried different styles of yoga and drifted back and forth to my mat. After the birth of my third child, I found an excellent teacher - Rebecca Papa-Adams, and have not looked back. In 2017 I completed a foundation course and then in 2018 I embarked on my yoga teacher training through the British Wheel of Yoga, studying for my 500-hour Level 4 diploma.

From your very first class, you will advance your breathing techniques; you will learn postures and be guided in deep relaxation to leave you feeling calm and rested. You do not need to be flexible to practice yoga and with regular practise, you will develop increased strength and flexibility. I teach hatha yoga with an emphasis on developing strength in postures by breaking down each pose and building it up to stage by stage. All abilities are welcome and catered for, as each stage can be adapted to suit individual needs.

We live such fast-paced and hectic lives today and many people are turning to yoga to find a little space away from the day-to-day busyness.

Benefits of Yoga

There are many benefits to practising yoga and each person will be able to tell you how yoga has helped them.  The following are some of the benefits found from a regular yoga practice:

  • Improved Posture, Flexibility, Strength, Fitness, Concentration.

  • Increased body awareness

  • Better quality sleep

  • Enhanced feeling of well-being and happiness

  • Stress relief and Prevention

  • “Me-Time”.

What to wear- loose, comfortable clothing or leggings and bare feet

What to bring- yourself and any friends or relatives over the age of 18. A willingness to open your mind.

What to expect-  90 minutes of physical posture work, breathwork, and relaxation.

Make sure- you have not eaten a heavy meal for at least 3 hours before a class, a light meal is ok, and ensure you bring water to keep you hydrated.

Mats, blocks and straps will be provided but feel free to bring your own.

Yoga is very personal to each one of us. We are all unique with different levels of flexibility and we are all built anatomically differently, meaning that some of us can naturally do things others find impossible. Listening to your body is the most important responsibility you have in class. Breathing well is the foundation of all yoga practices. Be patient. It will come.

Asana, pose, and posture are all interchangeable words for the same thing: the physical placement of the body in Hatha yoga. Be gentle and kind to yourself, try not to compare yourself to others, allow time and space for change to happen naturally.

You will find that your body and mind will benefit from the very first class. I am positive that you will find yourself using a breathing practice, or holding a posture while going about your daily life, simply because it makes you feel so good.  I look forward to welcoming you to my class.

Namaste

Jo
